This was an excellent outline of dyslipidaemia management by both presenters. The best on the subject that I have been to in the last 2 years. Clear, concise and useful.

Description:

Acne is a common general practice problem affecting 85% of 12-24 year olds. It can carry significant physical morbidity, including permanent scarring, but also profound psychological effects, such as low self-esteem, distorted body image, social isolation, depression and suicidal ideation, which can have a huge impact on a young person’s quality of life. Early and effective acne treatment can minimise or prevent both physical and mental health complications.

This one-hour activity with acne-expert dermatologist and founder of Acne Connect, Dr
Alex Coe, a former GP in regional Queensland, will use a case-based approach to review the assessment of acne and evidence-based management options specifically for adolescent patients.

Topics include optimising general skin care, tips and tricks for topical retinoids, a review of isotretinoin's myths and misconceptions and when it is appropriate to refer to a non-GP specialist for further management.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Describe the features of mild, moderate and severe acne and identify relevant complications or comorbidities in adolescents.
  2. Outline appropriate management of adolescent acne based on its severity, patient gender and associated conditions or concerns.
  3. Identify patients who require referral to a dermatologist or mental health clinician for additional management.

Description:

Acne is a common general practice problem that can persist, relapse, or develop for the first time in adulthood. Adult acne differs from adolescent acne in terms of epidemiological characteristics, differential diagnoses and underlying contributing factors. Women are more likely than men to be affected by acne as adults and hormones often play an important role in this. Acne carries significant physical morbidity, including permanent scarring, but also profound psychological effects such as low self-esteem, social isolation, anxiety, and depression, which can have a huge impact on a person’s quality of life. Early and effective acne treatment can minimise or prevent both physical and mental health complications.

This one-hour activity with acne-expert dermatologist and founder of Acne Connect, Dr Alex Coe, a former GP in regional Queensland, uses a case-based approach to review the unique features of adult-onset acne, including exploring differential diagnoses and underlying contributors. Up-to-date evidence and expert tips and tricks are presented.

Emerging topical options, such as clascoterone and oral treatment options, including spironolactone, are discussed in detail, along with a review of acne scarring and its management options.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Describe the frequency & features of adult acne and differential diagnoses in males and females
  2. Outline appropriate management of adult acne based on its severity, patient gender and associated conditions or concerns
  3. Identify patients who require onward referral for additional management
