Due to the overwhelming response received from Australian GPs for the 2023 Everyday Scope of Health series, the RACGP and Healthscope have partnered again in 2024 to bring you a brand-new four-part hybrid CPD series that reflects the common patient presentations you see every day.

Presented by Healthscope specialists and doctors, each activity is specifically designed for the Australian GP, case-study based and includes optional Measuring Outcomes (MO) and Reviewing Performance (RP) components.

Register once to access to all four webinars. The series webinar recordings will become available to watch free and on-demand afterwards.

Description: GPs elevate your expertise in musculoskeletal care by joining this upcoming webinar presented by two leading Healthscope orthopaedic surgeons. Dr Julian Yu, a knee and hip specialist driven by modern technology, will present on knee injuries, management options and common complications after knee surgery. Whilst Dr Matthew Sherlock, with an interest in sports injuries and joint replacements of the upper limb, will present on rotator cuff and biceps issues.

With 150+ different musculoskeletal conditions involving bones, ligaments, connective tissue and joints, GPs need to facilitate a patient-centred, whole-person care, chronic-disease approach.

Interdisciplinary teamwork also plays an important role in managing acute and chronic presentations involving these presentations.

Musculoskeletal symptoms affect all age groups and can result from hereditary, congenital or acquired pathologic processes. They represent the most common chronic conditions in Australia, accounting for 13% of the total disease burden. GP presentations vary from acute to chronic, and simple to complex.

Learning outcomes:

  1. Develop an algorithm to assess knee injuries including history, examination, appropriate investigations and management as appropriate including surgical and non-surgical.
  2. Assess patients with rotator cuff and biceps issues and develop a management plan including surgical and non-surgical.
  3. List the common complications with orthopaedic knee and shoulder surgery, management options and when to re-refer to surgeon.
