Celebrating 40 years of Interplast programs across the Asia Pacific region, this webinar series highlights the incredible work being done by Interplast’s local counterparts, across Fiji, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and the Solomon Islands. 


Hear directly from surgeons and surgical trainees in these countries about their experiences working alongside and training with Interplast, as well as establishing and delivering plastic and reconstructive surgery in their home countries. They will be joined by experienced Interplast surgeons who have worked alongside them in their respective countries.

Description: Join us for a special presentation from senior Nepali plastic surgery Dr Kiran Nakarmi, focused on the development of burns surgery and establishment of a specialised burns unit, in Nepal. Dr Nakarmi, who is Head of the Burns Unit at Kirtipur Hospital in Kathmandu, has considerable experience training with and working alongside Interplast teams over a number of years, and with the many challenges of establishing a specialised burns unit in a low resource setting. His presentation will focus on lessons learned from Nepal, which will be of great interest and relevance for his peers across the Asia Pacific. Dr Nakarmi will be joined by volunteer Interplast plastic surgeon Dr Damien Grinsell for a live Q&A session at the end of the presentation.


Learning outcomes: 

  1. How Plastic Surgery has evolved as a profession in Nepal and how Interplast has supported this process
  2. In particular, the evolution of burns management and burns surgery in Nepal
  3. Lessons learned from Nepal in regards to establishing burns care and a specialised burns unit
  4. Recommendations for other low resource settings who are looking to establish or further develop their own burns units in challenging settings.

Description: Join us for a special presentation from Fijian plastic surgery registrar Dr Sanjeet Raman, focused on the surgical training and the development of plastic surgical services in Fiji. Dr Raman has been working alongside Interplast for a number of years and has been instrumental to the success of recent Interplast programs in Fiji. He reflects on his own training, lessons learned for his peers, and showcases a number of cases which have been treated and managed in Fiji recent months. Dr Raman will be joined by volunteer Interplast plastic surgeon Dr Simon Thomson for a live Q&A session at the end of the presentation.

Description: Join us for a special presentation from Bhutan's first plastic surgery trainee Dr Sonam Jamtsho, focused on the impact of COVID-19 on access to healthcare and surgery in Bhutan. This webinar will examine how Bhutan managed the health emergency, and the the implications on surgical training - in particular, for plastic and reconstructive surgery. The webinar will include the personal reflections of Dr Jamtsho on his own training journey, which was interrupted by COVID-19, and how a unique pathway was taken to enable him to continue with his training to be Bhutan's first ever plastic surgeon. Dr Jamtsho will discuss his lessons learned which will be of interest to his peers around the region. Dr Jamtsho will be joined by volunteer Interplast plastic surgeon Dr Mark Moore for a live Q&A session at the end of the presentation.

This was an excellent outline of dyslipidaemia management by both presenters. The best on the subject that I have been to in the last 2 years. Clear, concise and useful.
