About this education
This on-demand webinar recording provides General Practitioners with a practical understanding of the emerging role of pharmacogenomics (PGx) in clinical practice.
Associate Professor Kym Mina, a Genetic Pathologist, introduces the fundamentals of PGx - what it is, how it works, the supporting science, and an overview of current Australian and international clinical guidelines.
GP Dr Stuart Arbuckle then presents two clinical case studies demonstrating the practical application of PGx in mental health. The goal is to improve patient outcomes, enhance compliance, and reduce adverse effects.
This on-demand recording includes the interactive Q&A panel session from the live event, where attendees engaged in a robust clinical discussion and had their specific questions answered. This education equips participants with the knowledge to begin incorporating PGx testing into their everyday practice to offer a more personalised approach to medicine.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this education you will be able to:
-
Explain the fundamental principles of Pharmacogenomics (PGx) and its benefits for improving drug selection, maximising efficacy, and minimising side effects in a general practice setting
-
Describe the situations in which PGx testing is recommended in general practice
-
Apply PGx test results to guide prescribing of antidepressants, using cases studies of two different patients with a history of anxiety and depression
